7 Signs Your Ford Needs a New Car Battery

We all want to enjoy a seamless driving experience, and a key component of keeping drives seamless like that is the car battery. If it's failing, you'll notice various issues, ranging from annoying to dangerous. Here are some tell-tale signs you need a new car battery from your Ford dealer. more 7 Signs You Need a New Car Battery from Your Ford Dealer Swelling or Bloated Battery Case Exposure to extreme temperatures can cause your battery case to swell or appear bloated, and this is a serious issue. This physical change shows that your battery's internal components are failing and that a replacement is necessary ASAP. Slow Engine Starts When the engine takes longer than usual to start, it's often a signal that the battery is losing its ability to charge. Your Ford should always roar to life, so if it coughs and takes its time, talk to us about getting a battery. Electrical Malfunctions If you start experiencing erratic behavior with your vehicle's electrical systems, such as the infotainment system resetting, dashboard lights dimming, or electronic accessories malfunctioning, know that these are often symptoms of a battery struggling to maintain a consistent power supply. Frequent Need for Jump-Starts Requiring frequent jump-starts is a clear sign that your battery is no longer holding a charge effectively. If jump-starting becomes a routine necessity, it's time to consider replacing the battery. One day, it won't jumpstart at all, and you'll be stuck. Battery Age The average lifespan of a car battery is around 3 to 5 years, but this can vary based on your driving habits and environmental factors. For example, if you do a lot of longer highway drives, it should last longer, all other things being equal. If you're always doing short hops, this will strain your battery. Regardless, if your battery is getting to the end of its lifespan, make sure you're bringing the car to your dealer for oil changes and other maintenance. We'll give your battery a courtesy test during your multipoint inspection, too. Dim Headlights When your vehicle's headlights start to dim, especially during startup or when idling, it usually means the battery is not providing enough power. Battery Warning Light There's a battery warning light on the dashboard. If this light illuminates, don't ignore it. It's a direct signal from your vehicle's diagnostic system that the battery is experiencing issues and should be inspected. Your Ford's battery is crucial for reliability and functionality. We specialize in diagnosing and resolving battery-related issues in Fords, so if you're noticing any of the issues above, come to see us at Oliver Ford for a comprehensive battery check, repair, or replacement. We'll make sure you're never stuck with a car that won't start reliably!

Does Your Ford Need a Radiator Repair?

The radiator is a vital part of your Ford, as it is responsible for removing heat generated by combustion. Removing the heat is essential, as an engine temperature that's too high can cause major damage to your engine. In time, the radiator can become damaged, and it's time to visit your Ford dealer for a radiator repair. These are a few signs that your radiator needs to be fixed. more Signs You Need a Radiator Repair at Your Ford Dealer Coolant Leak One of the most obvious signs of a radiator problem is leaking coolant. Coolant is a mixture of antifreeze and water, and its job is to transfer engine heat to the radiator for dispersal. When your engine temperature reaches a predetermined point, coolant is released and pumped through the engine at high speed. As the coolant passes off hot components, it absorbs the heat radiating from them. Coolant leaks are most commonly caused by worn or damaged seals. They can also happen due to a rusted radiator, or a damaged radiator hose. Leaking coolant will drop the pressure in the cooling system, which slows down the movement of the remaining coolant. The consequence of this is that your engine temperature will rise sharply. We will fix this problem by finding the source of the leak and repairing it. Jammed Thermostat As we saw above, coolant is released when the engine temperature reaches a certain level. The thermostat monitors the engine temperature and opens to release the coolant at the set temperature. Once engine temperature drops below the preset level, coolant is withdrawn from your engine and the thermostat closes again. A worn thermostat can jam in an open or closed position. If the thermostat is jammed open, it releases coolant regardless of the engine temperature. In this case, your engine temperature will be lower than it should be for peak performance. As a result of this, your engine will use more gas. If the thermostat is jammed closed, no coolant will be released, and your engine temperature will soar. Once we replace the thermostat, your engine temperature will return to normal. Broken Water Pump The water pump function is to pump coolant through your engine. The pump starts up as soon as coolant is released, and it continues to work until the engine temperature falls below its set temperature. The pump will also vary its speed to ensure the engine temperature is kept under control. A broken water pump is serious. If the pump isn't working, the coolant won't be able to move. Without fast-moving coolant to keep the engine temperature in check, your engine will overheat. We can easily replace the water pump to fix this problem. Any radiator problem can cause long-term engine damage. Call us ASAP at Oliver Ford, and we'll fix your radiator.

Introducing the 2024 Ford Bronco

While it's true that the 2024 Ford Bronco is shaping up to be one of the best off-roading rides you can drive, it does something rival off-road-centric vehicle manufacturers just can't seem to get right: on-road fluency and handling. Normally, when you opt for a ride with an engine and chassis built for taking the paths less traveled, it can feel like pulling teeth to get there on the paved roads. The Bronco is a proud exception to this. more What's It Capable Of? The vehicle's engine specs are what give it its capabilities, and that's why Ford loaded the Bronco up with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost® I-4 engine mated to a seven-speed transmission. Programs like the Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control are essential for safety off the road, which is why Ford made these standard features on all Bronco models. The Bronco is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds without any additional trailering equipment or add-ons. HOSS 1.0 System One of our favorite Bronco features, HOSS stands for High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension. This program employs heavy-duty dampers, an independent front suspension, and corner coil springs placed higher up for better articulation, response, and continued stability even on rough terrain. Safety Features The Bronco features a Post-Collision Braking system that helps protect you and your loved ones by lessening the severity of the impact. It can do this by engaging the brakes automatically, tightening seatbelts, and ensuring airbags are properly deployed. There is also a Pre-Collision Assist program that allows the Bronco to apply the brakes on its own if an impending accident is sensed and the driver can't respond in time. The Bronco's Personal Safety System™ includes your very own co-pilot. Ford's Co-Pilot This suite of safety features is Ford's pride and joy, and they meticulously update this system every year to give you the latest and best driver assistance programs. The 2024 Bronco's version of the Co-Pilot includes a 360-degree camera that offers live feeds of the cameras on your Bronco's front, rear, and mirrors. This allows you to see bird's-eye views as well as an off-road overlay to show you where your Bronco will be traveling before you get there. The Bronco can stand out from the crowd despite being in such an over-saturated vehicle class because its on-road driving is competitive, and its off-road fluency is unmatched. Come test drive the Bronco with us here at Oliver Ford Lincoln any day this week!

Does Your Ford Need an Alternator Repair?

An alternator is a relatively simple component, but it performs an essential function. It generates electricity for your Ford by converting mechanical energy into DC for your car's electrical systems. Despite its simplicity, the alternator can still get damaged or wear out. A failing alternator will have serious consequences for most systems in your car. These are some signs that you need to see your Ford dealer for an alternator repair. more Signs You Need an Alternator Repair at Your Ford Dealer Strange Electrical Behavior Electical systems can unexpectedly fail and then continue as though nothing happened. If you're experiencing multiple electrical issues, this points to a deeper problem. Jammed windows, a radio that won't work, and windshield wipers that suddenly fail are some signs of a failing alternator. All these issues, and more, are due to a low and erratic electricity supply. An old or damaged alternator produces less power than it should. Since your car's electrical demands remain the same, the lack of power will cause problems for your car. The low electricity supply means your computer has to shift power from one system to another depending on demand. The shifting power causes electrical glitches and damage to the components themselves. We can replace the alternator to fix this problem. A Dead Battery A car battery has a useful life of three to five years before it needs to be replaced. An old battery that dies could simply have worn out, or it may have failed due to an alternator problem. One of the duties of the alternator is to recharge your battery. A battery uses a large amount of power to start your engine, and your alternator should begin recharging the battery as soon as your engine is running. As we've seen, a damaged alternator produces less power. This lack of electricity also affects the battery, as it will receive less power than it needs. The lack of adequate recharging will gradually weaken your battery and cause it to fail. Our technicians will test your battery, and we can replace it. We'll also test the alternator and replace it if it's failed. Battery Warning Light Your Ford has numerous warning lights which give you a heads-up that something is going wrong. The battery light connects to multiple sensors in the electrical charging system. These sensors monitor the system's components and will warn of any potential problems. The sensors can detect problems when they start, which allows sufficient time to repair them. The warning light illuminating could be caused by a failing alternator, a weak battery, or another issue. Our technicians will check and fix the problem. If you suspect your alternator is failing, call us right away at Oliver Ford.
